Meet Greg Fischer

imageBorn and raised in Louisville, Greg and his three brothers and sister were brought up on the values of hard work, responsibility, and service to church and community. Greg’s parents, George and Mary Lee, instilled a love of Kentucky in their children through their involvement in public and community service.

George Fischer served as secretary of the cabinet in Democratic Governor John Y. Brown’s administration. After graduating from Trinity High School in 1976, Greg attended Vanderbilt University. Greg spent his summers working on the fishing docks of Kodiak, Alaska to help pay for college. Following his college graduation, Greg used the money he earned in Alaska to backpack solo around the world for a year.

imageGreg’s formal business career started in the early 1980’s with his father and brother Mark.  At age 25, working in a local garage, Greg co-invented the combination ice/beverage dispenser.  This small family business, SerVend, eventually became a large global company.

Currently, Greg is the chairman and founder of Iceberg Ventures, an investment firm, and CEO of Dant Clayton Corporation. Greg has helped create thousands of American jobs and has founded or invested in over twenty firms including Vogt Ice, a Steelworkers Union Local 1693 signatory.

imageGreg’s business success has allowed him to share his passion in the areas that are most important to him: family, education, and community service. As board member and past chairman of the Louisville Science Center, Greg helped raise $25 million to modernize the Center and create interactive children’s programs.

As member and past chairman of the Bluegrass Young President’s Organization (YPO), Greg led YPO community outreach with the Habitat for Humanity and the development of a long term partnership with the Center for Interfaith Relations to bring global thought leaders to Louisville for community learning.

imageGreg has endowed scholarships at Trinity High School and the University of Louisville to create educational opportunities for the youth of Kentucky. On the international stage, Greg led the development of a collaboration between YPO and the World Conference of Religions for Peace.

Past activities include the founding of Roads to You Louisville, a cross-cultural exchange of young musicians from around the world; board positions at the Crane House, an Asian cultural and education center, Greater Louisville Inc, the University of Louisville Board of Overseers and many companies.

Greg’s proudest accomplishments are that of being a husband and a father. Greg and his wife Alex, a physician, have been married twenty years and have four teenage children.
